Perfectly Round Something Above House/Yard

Perfectly Round Something Above House/Yard

Date: August 12, 1963

Location: Pocatello, ID

Summer of 1963 our family, mom, dad, and my 4 brothers, drove from Seattle to Pocatello ID to visits Mom's brother in Pocatello Idaho for a family visit as we were moving to San Leandro California in June 1964, Pre-determined by Dad's job.

My uncle was an engineer and helped build freeway interchanges grading on/off ramps for the then new interstate freeway system early 1960s they moved frequently for projects they bid and won.

Additionally we lived in the path of Interstate 5 in Seattle East of Boeing Field at Mars Avenue South & Swift Avenue South, our house was slated for demolition.

So, dad's new job was to move to the West coast office in Oakland California, was why we went then, to Idaho well before June 1964.

It took 2 days, I think we stopped somewhere near Boise, or West of Boise overnight.

When we arrived at Pocatello, all the boys had to sleep out in the backyard except my younger brother, and inside were parents, my 2 cousins young girls, and my younger brother.

Outside was my 3 older brothers and my older cousin, and myself.

We all had sleeping bags/pillows, it was warm in Idaho in August so no threat of any rain, clear skies.

I think it was about 9:30 p.m. before we finally were corralled and got ready for bed, the time of the sighting seemed like 1:30 a.m. though I do not have the exact time.

We were in the side and back yard as most of the homes did not have fences back then, elbow room between yards was wider.

Laying on our backs, there was a tree to the left which would be the right front facing the house, up and to the top and right was clear, no trees to block the view.

I awoke it had to be after midnight, totally quiet, and was looking up, there was a round object right above us my guess from 61 years ago was the object was about 500' above us, maybe closer.

I could see details on what would be the bottom, as some type of sections though I don't really know, the sections were black/light brown and the object was gray.

The black/brown sections were curved like half a circle, there may have been 4 of those.

I did notice the object was moving towards my right looking up, but extremely slow, as a star peeked out from behind, then another pretty quickly.

That was when I got scared, I pulled the sleeping bag up over my head, I fell asleep.

The following morning, the Sun was up, and we all started awakening.

At the breakfast table, my mom and Aunt were making the standard pancake breakfast and orange juice.

When my oldest brother, this is all of us sitting around the table, my oldest brother 13 years old asked if us guys saw the flying saucer above us last night?

My older cousin 13 years old, says, yes I did, my 2nd oldest brother 11½ years said yes, he did, middle brother 10 years, yes he did, me 8+ years remained silent.

None of us knew we were all awake at the sighting time, a quick chat around the table was per my oldest brother saying it was a flying saucer.

My female cousin same age as me, starts questioning her brother as she was scared that a flying saucer was above their house.

I don't remember all of that but my Aunt intervened to quiet us down and finish breakfast.

I remember my Uncle saying well that is interesting, more on my Uncle related to this in a bit.

My mom and oldest brother were always extremely smart and had all of the answers growing up.

We had never been to Idaho before this trip, we were poor and didn't have a lot of money 1950s or 1960s until Dad got the new job and this changed for the better.

He was actually flying to Shreveport LA for training headquarters and then on his own before we moved from Seattle, but was technically a traveling salesman those years.

Fast forward, to aunt and uncle, they had their own construction company later based in Olympia, WA and they settled there.

They built a very nice home North of Lacey, WA and my family and I would drive to Seattle from then San Jose to visit our relatives.

Both aunt and uncle smoked a lot and they'd sit outside to do so.

One time on my many visits from 1980 to year 2006 I asked him if he remembered the 1963 flying saucer event in Pocatello, this question was way before he passed away in 2011.

He stated he vaguely remembered that because it was odd but he believed us because all of us stated we saw it.

I asked him if he thought UFOs were possible and he said sure, but did not elaborate.

When uncle passed away, his personal U.S. Military records were sent to his oldest daughter by prior direction.

We found out then, Uncle was involved with Werner von Braun during Operation Paperclip, and after and was handpicked by Braun to help design certain items on U.S. Rocket designs in the late 1950s.

We never knew Uncle lived in Huntsville, Alabama until he passed away, his wife didn't even know and his children never knew.

His military papers were classified Top Secret when working with Braun.

My female cousin stated some of his records were missing as far as she could tell, missing dates after WWII to Huntsville.

Uncle was a WWII Sea-Bee in the U.S. Army in Alaska building aircraft runways/parking and clearing land for that.
