Whatever it was, It Terrified Me

Hello, my name is Matthew McCarthy, I am 20 year old student from London. I am very open minded, and whilst I generally don’t believe in this sort of thing I am by no means a skeptic.

On the morning of October 25, which has genuinely left me terrified when going to sleep. I was at university, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire in bed with my girlfriend.

I was laying awake whilst she was asleep next to me. I remember checking my phone and it was 3:50 a.m. I was trying to get back to sleep when I heard a creak. I turned around to look towards the door, and then is when it happened. Before I write this, I would genuinely like to say that this was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. I am getting anxious now just thinking about it.

I turned over to see a black shadow standing over us. Approximately 6'6" to 7' tall, with arms and legs unproportional to its body. It was dark in my room, so naturally I couldn’t make out any distinguishing features on its face, eyes nose etc. Naturally, I began to try and scream. I say try because I know I was screaming, I could feel it in my throat and chest. However, I could hear nothing apart from an extremely loud and painful high pitched whistle. I then began to try and wake up my girlfriend by shaking her incessantly and screaming Her name, but she just would not wake up.

Then, everything in the room went blurry. I know this is going to sound like a strange description but its the only think I can liken it to. You know when it is hot, and you can see in the distance all the air is distorted from the heat? Everything was just like that. It was at his moment when I began to raise up off of the bed, not far, or fast. Slowly. And I rose perhaps about 9" off the bed. The next thing I remember after that was sitting upright in bed with my girlfriend asking me what was wrong and if I was ok, stating that I had been squeezing her very tightly and shaking her. I checked my phone and it was now 4:30 a.m, and it felt like about 30 seconds had past at most.

The following day I had the most incredible ear ache and experienced sporadic blurred vision for a few days afterwards.

When telling my girlfriend about it I just said It must have been a bad dream. But I know it wasn’t. I have had realistic dreams before. That was not a dream. I was awake. I am sure of it. I want to know what happened in the time between that is not accounted for.
