Levelland UFO Case
This incident began late on the evening, when two immigrant farm workers, Pedro Saucedo & Joe Salaz, called the Levelland police department to report a UFO sighting, only to be scoffed at. He reported that he and a friend, driving on a country highway four miles west of town, had seen a 200' long rocket rise up from a field and rush toward their truck. Terrified of an imminent collision, the two flew out of the cab and hurled themselves into the ditch. As the UFO passed just above the truck, rocking it with a blast as loud as thunder, the vehicle's engine died and its lights went out, only to resume a few seconds later when the mysterious object disappeared from view.Believing the story to be a joke, Fowler ignored it. An hour later, Jim Wheeler reported an egg shaped object was sitting in the road, 4 miles east of Levelland, blocking his path and glowing bright blue. Claiming his vehicle died and as he got out of his car, the object took off and its lights went out. As it moved away, Wheelers car restarted and worked normally.
At 10:55 p.m. a couple driving northeast of Levelland reported that they saw a bright flash of light moving across the sky and their headlights and radio died for a few seconds. 5 minutes later Jose Alvarez met the strange object sitting on the road 11 miles north of Levelland, and his vehicles engine died until the object departed. At 12:05 a.m., a college student named Newell Wright was surprised when, driving 10 miles east of Levelland, his car suddenly died. When he got out to check on the problem, he saw a 100' long, egg shaped object sitting in the road. It took off, and his engine started running again. At 12:15 a.m. Officer Fowler received another call, this time from a farmer named Frank Williams who said the egg shaped objects blue glow pulsated, and each time it glowed brightly, his engine died. Other callers were Ronald Martin at 12:45 a.m. & James Long at 1:15 a.m.
By this time, several Levelland policemen were actively investigating the incidents. Among them was Sheriff Weir Clem, who saw a brilliant red object moving across the sky at 1:30 a.m. At 1:45 a.m. Levellands Fire Chief, Ray Jones, also saw the object and his vehicles lights and engine sputtered. The sightings apparently ended soon after this incident.
